Lazy Day at the Zoo

And here's my final post for the night! After this, I think I'm completely caught up on the Greenie news and will hopefully have more fun to share this month! I have several trips lined up (including an outing to San Francisco!) and before long we'll be in the Bahamas! Even got Carter's passport ordered so he can join us!

But I digress while dreaming of lounging on the beach...

Today our neighbors Kristin and Justin joined us for a lazy day at the zoo. We all had a nice picnic in the shade of the cottonwoods and then spent some time checking out the animals. Good thing about being a zoo member, we don't have to rush, nor do we have to try to see everything, since we can come back at any time during the year.

The weather was beautiful (upper 80's), but we didn't have much of a breeze to keep us cool. The animals agreed that it was pretty warm and half of the furry folks were napping as we went by:
The sea life, however, was QUITE active. We took a quick rest and watched the seals and sea lions swim by us. Carter was loving it and kept pointing and ooh'ing and aah'ing:
But up top, we were back to some slackin', nappin' animal life:
While walking over to the Africa exhibits, we passed a zoo keeper holding a 4-month-old monkey. Can you saw "AWWWWW?!"
One of Carter's favorites (or as we THINK is one of his faves) is the giraffe. Last time we were at the zoo, we got up close and personal with the giraffe. Today we had a very similar experience. This guy (or maybe it was a gal...I didn't check) stood in front of us just like a statue:

We then traveled over to the last exhibit for the day...the elephants. Carter had a hard time seeing through the fence from his stroller, but when he finally caught sight of the big girl, he was excited!
We then took off, since it was beyond Carter's nap time. And, well, we have a really bad habit of screwing up his routine on the weekend and then trying to re-adjust on Mondays and Tuesdays. So we packed up our picnic gear and all of the Greenies took a much needed nap.

Peachy Keen

This, folks, in my opinion, is my best post of the evening... Or at least the most memorable!

Today I got up early to make some homemade peach syrup and French toast for breakfast. Thought a nice, filling breakfast would help us start our lazy Sunday off right...

Carter, you see, is a HUGE fan of condiments. ANY condiment - ketchup, soy sauce, mustard, salad dressing, syrup, you name it. We usually appease him by giving him a dab here and a dab there, but NEVER, EVER large amounts of syrup...

Today, however, since the syrup I made was mostly pureed peaches, we gave him a nice big scoop. He LOVED it. And ate it up like a champ!!

Until, that is, I made the mistake of giving him another spoonful before I hopped up to use the restroom. Matt must have been engrossed in reading the newspaper and didn't notice when Carter took his breakfast plate and smeared it into his HAIR!!! My archnemesis (Mr. Sticky) was now out in full force:

But the BEST part of the whole mega-syrup ingestion debacle... He was TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY HYPED UP ON SUGAR!! He was chatting like a goober, swinging his head to and fro, and was pretty much high as a kite! Couple short videos (first one is 16 seconds, second is 19) from breakfast to prove it:







So he went straight to the bath and got de-stickified. While picking out his clothes after the bath, I left him in his crib, only to turn around to see him jumping up and down. Guess we know that sugar and 17-month-olds don't mix, eh?

Sunglasses At Night - Part 2

So whilst going through all of our worldly possessions for the Great Greenie Garage Sale, Matt came across some SWEET aviator shades... I tried like heck to get Brett to take them home, but I made the mistake of telling him how goofy they looked, so he wouldn't take them away. Shucks.

So who gets to wear them instead? Carter! Here are a few silly shots from the other night:

Fun With Cardboard

Perhaps my most EXCITING post for this blogging marathon, this one is about Carter's new obsession with climbing. And actually, as I type this up, he's climbing up on the ottoman and bouncing about like a goon...

Anyway, here are a few shots from the other night where Carter found an empty diaper wipes box. I think he climbed up on the box about 30 times in a row and I don't think it ever got old:
Funny thing about once he got to standing on it, he'd do a little "Maniac" dance and shuffle his feet back and forth. Entirely hilarious! And in real time, it looks like this (14 seconds of fun!):

Albuquerque Grower's Market

The Greenies decided to get up nice and early and get a jump on the weekend! We started the morning with a trip to the Albuquerque Grower's Market in downtown Albuquerque. It's a fun little market-in-the-park with fresh produce, flowers, homemade breads, burritos, and even some craft and soap sellers.

While Carter wasn't as thrilled about the produce, he WAS thrilled about running around in the grass. Luckily, Matt was up for chasing him while I lazily shopped the booths. Here are a few shots of the beautiful morning:

All in all, it was a wonderful morning and the salsa was some of the tastiest we've ever made!

All About the Toys

For my next exciting post, I'll show you a few of Carter's favorite toys. Starting with an old REALLY noisy keyboard that Matt found out in the shed. Carter loves to peck and plink on the keys and make as much racket as possible:
Another favorite toy is his pull-along telephone (from Jacque - THANKS!). He'll tote that thing around and around the house until he's completely worn out. Lucky for us, we have one of those houses that can double as a race track and he can run in circles (through the livingrooms and the kitchen) over and over again!

Pre-School Snacks

Alrighty, folks... This here is a massive attempt to catch up on some blogging... I've been a working, traveling fool and have had VERY little time to even see straight, much less take photos and blog about the "World's Cutest Kid." So TONIGHT is the night for some blogging marathoning.

First up, a fun little post about Carter's fashionable wardrobe choices, some lovely artwork from school, and even some before-school snacking shots.

We'll start with Carter's "Space Man" look. Another great hand-me-down from Liam, our kiddo sports the celestial look as good as any professional! Here are some shots of some pre-school milk and Cherrios:

Occasionally Carter won't obey the rules and sit down to snack (which yes, is one of the phrases he knows how to say - "Sit down!"), so he'll pick up his snacks off the floor so he doesn't get busted:
Next, some of that "lovely" artwork from school... Apparently the stick-random-things/foods/spitwads/etc. qualifies as "art" these days, so I'm enjoying capturing (but not saving...) his creations. This one is a fish with some goldfish crackers glued to it:
I kept it on the fridge for a couple weeks before I snapped a photo of it and you can see the lovely grease plume that took off on the page (hahaha!):

Anyway, I guess whatever is fun at school is good enough for me!
